Not Sure..

I'll think of a title and write something here tomorrow.

Momentum

I was one of four photo assistants for my friend Jon's photo project. For these photos, two of us were in a jeep rigged with a strobe while the rest of us were in a hatch-back with the camera set up on a tripod, controlled via live-view on a laptop, and shutter triggered by a pocket wizard. Here are a few of the unsuspecting motorists we encountered:

Ecclesiastes

Second to last class for the semester. Almost....

I took this picture during my friend Hannah's photoshoot. She did all the incredibly creative makeup and wardrobe.

A Flurry of Strings

I was planning to do a few shoots over this past 4 day weekend, but none of the personal ones seemed to have worked out. I did some assist-shooting for a friend, but that was more her project than mine. Since I've got class Wednesday nights and needed something to turn in this evening, I threw together a shoot last night. Luckily, my friend Erika helped me out by not only letting me use her Cello for the shoot, but modeling in it too!

I absolutely hate daylight savings because it gets dark before I leave work now. Since I have to either shoot with artificial lighting (or very little available light), I decided to play around with mixing strobe colors. It turned out to be pretty fun and interesting.

Drifting Through a Sea of Change

Life will throw some unexpected jabs at us every once in a while. It is our job not to fall; to stay standing through it all. My grandpa used to say "Just roll with the punches", so I do.

Prison of Wires

I had an amazing experience in San Francisco last weekend. Words can't express how free I felt; not having to drive anywhere really takes the edge off. Plus there's nothing like exploring small shops and dark alleys. It's unfortunate that these feelings have faded so quickly, but at least I have some pictures to remember the trip by:

Not There

I really want to be around creative, productive people. Where are they all hiding?

Loose Looks

Finished doing headshots for my friend Evan. I always avoid using natural light because there are never clouds in Simi and the light is -always- too harsh. If you can find the right natural lighting, it can out perform artificial light ten fold. Today was an average, overly bright day... but thank goodness for building shadows!

Summ-er..

My beloved friend Daryl is leaving to Germany for over a month! It's not -that- long... but it sure seems like it will be considering she's my creative soul mate. The other side of the world is a long ways away. Did another Pin-up calendar shoot tonight with Erin. We were going for one or two good shots, so it was pretty quick (Unless you were standing on a chair the whole time). Mad props to Ken for being such a wonderful "Slasher".

Robert & Bethany with M.E.

I just found out about this slide-show thing from flickr and how to embed it, so I wanted to try it out here.

Coldwater

How exciting! The movie poster I designed for "Savanna" is on IMDB!

Here are a few teaser pictures I took for "Coldwater". My cousin Vinny wrote the script for it years ago; it had funding and was all ready to be made. But things fell through so it got put on hold. There are new potential investors for it, so it's back in the works.

So Tired..

The past week was overloaded with projects. No time to edit. I feel exhausted and overwhelmed with loneliness at the same time. Eight months past and I still feel half empty. It's late, I need to get to bed.

The Earth is on Fire, and You are the Sea

Daryl does such a great job of making this field look peaceful and relaxing. There were bugs and prickly plants everywhere; I'm lucky to have such an incredible model and friend to work with!

More f/1.4 Play

I'm not sure what to say about this dog. Very cute, but she always looks scared

Playing with f/1.4

These were test shots with an 85mm f/1.4 lens. The lens is full manual, and the tiny depth of field makes it a little difficult to get sharp focus without an auto focus. But I love it, and it was $1,700 less than the Canon name brand equivalent.

Zombie Apocalypse

I'm sure you were aware that there was stuff dripping from Parker's mouth, and had absolutely no desire whatsoever to know what it was. Which is why I'm going to tell you. It's Salsa. Not brains or naturally gross looking saliva; it's good 'ol fashion tomatoes and cilantro.

Faith is a passionate intuition

Project "Backyard Studio" was a success. The backdrop frame stood strong and tall, the back-lit canvas had a nice glow, and I worked out all the kinks with my strobes. The photographic goal of project "Backyard Studio" was to create controlled lighting, which we did! We were able to get soft shadows, strong shadows, mid shadows, and dark shadows. Up shadows, down shadows, left shadows, and right shadows. In shadows, out shadows, square shadows, and round shadows. Basically every single shadow. Nikki and Sophie were there for support and to be test subjects, while Garrett was there to get some acting headshots.

Taking pictures on semi-rainy days is great. It can be difficult, but it is well worth the extra work. You get passing clouds overhead, which constantly change the environment's lighting. It makes it so a shot that might look bad one moment will look perfect the next. It can work in reverse too, so you've got to keep moving and trying things out.
