More f/1.4 Play

I'm not sure what to say about this dog. Very cute, but she always looks scared

Playing with f/1.4

These were test shots with an 85mm f/1.4 lens. The lens is full manual, and the tiny depth of field makes it a little difficult to get sharp focus without an auto focus. But I love it, and it was $1,700 less than the Canon name brand equivalent.

Zombie Apocalypse

I'm sure you were aware that there was stuff dripping from Parker's mouth, and had absolutely no desire whatsoever to know what it was. Which is why I'm going to tell you. It's Salsa. Not brains or naturally gross looking saliva; it's good 'ol fashion tomatoes and cilantro.

Faith is a passionate intuition

Project "Backyard Studio" was a success. The backdrop frame stood strong and tall, the back-lit canvas had a nice glow, and I worked out all the kinks with my strobes. The photographic goal of project "Backyard Studio" was to create controlled lighting, which we did! We were able to get soft shadows, strong shadows, mid shadows, and dark shadows. Up shadows, down shadows, left shadows, and right shadows. In shadows, out shadows, square shadows, and round shadows. Basically every single shadow. Nikki and Sophie were there for support and to be test subjects, while Garrett was there to get some acting headshots.

Taking pictures on semi-rainy days is great. It can be difficult, but it is well worth the extra work. You get passing clouds overhead, which constantly change the environment's lighting. It makes it so a shot that might look bad one moment will look perfect the next. It can work in reverse too, so you've got to keep moving and trying things out.

You Take the High Road..

Daryl and I did our first collaborative shoot on Thursday with Sierra. It was so much easier to focus on the pictures with Daryl's help. She did all the makeup, hair styling, and wardrobe. She also directed Sierra with a lot of poses. It was wonderful, and can't wait to see Daryl either professionally direct photoshoots or pick up a camera and do them on her own. Until then, it'll be great to have her help whenever it's available :)

Bitter

I'm itching to try out this 24-70mm f2.8 USM lens that I just got, but either I've been working, it's been too dark, or it's been raining. I'm scared to bring it outside. Here's a -little- cropped piece of a picture of my friend Evan with my 1.8 prime. Hooray for 21 megapixels :)

Japanese Custom Bokeh

I built a custom shutter filter yesterday to create my own bokeh shape. It was my first attempt, so I didn't take into account that the lens I was shooting with was a f2.8 and the filter I made was a little larger than that. This caused the custom bokeh shape to have half-circles depending on the position of the shapes on the picture. Sooo... gotta make smaller openings in the future. Anywho, here is how it went down:

Devon Headshots

Apparently, Disney liked her headshots! Not only that, but her audition went well! All the applicants were narrowed down to a final 7, and Devon is one of them. If she gets the job, she'll get to be either Belle or Aurora at the Disneyland in Paris, France! The second interview will be this coming Monday. Hooray for being able to help out a little

Testing Video Embed

My very first attempt at editing video from my camera. I guess it's supposed to be a parody of those YouTube videos of the spray painting street artists. Towards the end of the video before the credits, you can see a freeze in the video. Apparently taking a still picture with the 5D Mark II -during- filming will freeze the filming. That's good to know. Titles etc all done with Windows Movie Maker.
